Abstract

Purpose : This study investigates the core elements of nursing professionalism and that practice experience of nursing students perceive.
Method : This study is a descriptive study involving 175 nursing students from two universities. Data were collected in September 2012 via a structured self-report questionnaire and subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA.
Results; The mean scores for core elements of nursing professionalism were 4.14¡¾.36, the interpersonal nursing professionalism, public nursing professionalism and intrapersonal nursing professionalism were 4.17¡¾.37, 4.31¡¾.42 and 3.97¡¾.47, respectively.
Conclusion : The results for this study showed that nursing student perceived the public nursing professionalism including the elements related to the public trust is the most important. A fostering of professionalism is needed in stage of student education in order to improve the job performance of a nurse, get a job satisfaction and reduce turnover rate.
